Upcoming live webinars: How to teach a novel

Slide4

Join our team of teacher-authors on July 27 for a series of live webinars!

Carol will demonstrate how to connect to the character(s) and the text, how to increase comprehension and how to inspire HOT (higher order thinking). Learn how to prepare the class using strategic pre-reading activities and how to engage even your most reluctant readers/learners. Carol will highlight key events from each book in the series and share a host of engaging ‘tricks’ to increase emotional engagement, deepen comprehension and facilitate SLA (second language acquisition). Although this webinar will focus on the Brandon Brown series specifically, strategies shared will be applicable to any read.

Kristy will demonstrate how to generate interest and motivate students to read a novel by creating multi-faceted units using a novel as the core of the curriculum. Learn how to use a variety of resources to build comprehensive units that will prepare students for AP/upper level study and result in extraordinary results on the AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages). Kristy will share powerful tips for incorporating #authres, such as music, commercials, movie trailers and a myriad of other resources into your repertoire.

Carrie will demonstrate how to plan for a read with IB and AP themes in mind.  Learn how to prepare students for any read, how to build background knowledge and how to weave rich cultural components into your instruction. Get the inside scoop on how Carrie’s students achieved amazing results on the AAPPL (ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages) using compelling leveled readers like Bianca Nieves and La Calaca Alegre. Discover how easy it is to meet ACTFL’s World Readiness Standards and facilitate SLA in the WL classroom!

You may sign up for one, two or all of these engaging webinars!

How I wish I could do this! Alas, I’ll be in Florida without internet during that time. Maybe another time. I love the idea!

I have the same question as Ashley – I’ll be out of the country on July 27; will they be available as recorded webinars afterward?

  4. Hey There! I am so interested in what you all have to say about teaching novels. I heard you all speak at iFLT15 and want to continue us to learn. I will be on the road the day of these webinars and won’t have access to the Internet. Do you think you might offer them again at another time? Just wondering … Thanks so much for all of your awesome work and amazing contributions!
